Hobbies. The most frequented tourist sites in our regions

It’s not a bridge year, but still…

1er-May, 8-May… Misses! There are years with and years without. So it’s a year without. If the month of May is generally conducive to bridges of three or four days, 2022 therefore escapes the rule. All is not lost, however: Ascension falls on a Thursday, May 26. Then comes Pentecost Monday, June 6.

As we know, the tourist sector lives and beats to the rhythm of the calendar, and the months of May and June can bring the season forward. Shoot it. The departments in our distribution area, the two Savoie, Isère, Drôme, Ardèche, Vaucluse, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, have serious assets for attracting tourists, even on short stays.

From the Aiguille du midi in Haute-Savoie to the Chauvet 2 site in Ardèche, we take stock of the attendance figures, just to give ideas for some beautiful escapes.

Successive crises – health, environmental, social – have given rise to tourism in full mutation. “In reality, the crises were the catalyst for a profound phenomenon, the habits of the French had already changed”, nuances the regional councilor Fabrice Pannekoucke, president of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Tourism, who notes an explosion in the clientele of proximity. The inhabitants of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region (Aura) are the first customers in their region. “We are lucky to have departments that offer various opportunities for stays. Two hours from where I am, I can have an exotic tourist moment. And, remarkably, the inhabitant of the region has consumed more at home than the inhabitants of other regions have done at home”, rejoices the elected official. The “Leave here” web application, offering more than 2,000 tourist proposals, has had great success since its launch in October 2021, with hundreds of thousands of users.

+ 20% of reservations in Paca

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (Paca) region is just as happy because it has recorded a reservation rate of more than 20% for this summer compared to 2019 and is seeing the return of foreign customers, from England. , from Belgium but also from the United States and Canada.

In Paca too, local tourism has developed well since 2020. Local tourists with significant purchasing power, who until then were looking for a change of scenery by going far from home, realized, with the pandemic, that there was a top-of-the-range offer just a stone’s throw away.

What is good for the planet, good for his wallet, is very good for the tourist. The other underlying trend is tourism that is both virtuous and themed. There is a desire to consume in a reasoned way. And at the same time, we will choose a favorite sector: gastronomy, nature, sport or even ecology, to take only these examples.

Stays from Saturday to Saturday have not completely disappeared, but they have given way to greater tourist agility. From now on, short stays, weekend or midweek, are popular.

Indicators are green except labor

The Covid crisis has made the customer more cautious. He who tended to book at the last minute now prefers to anticipate. We therefore book well in advance. And even for a very long time: hotel reservations are already almost complete for the matches of the Rugby World Cup to be held in September 2023 in Nice or Marseille.

All the indicators are green except for employment. In Paca, tourism professionals already know that they will lack manpower and are forced to reduce their offers.

No less than 40,000 employees are missing for this summer, in the restaurant and hotel industry.

To cope, the Regional Tourism Committee, alongside employers, is trying to reverse the trend. Through the “We all need you” campaign, they are raising wages and above all restoring the image of the tourism professions.

A well-being at work charter, signed by 200 hoteliers, takes into account the conditions of the seasonal worker who will now be able to take his two consecutive days off, have at least one weekend per month and will see the big break disappear in the middle of his working day in favor of a shorter time slot.

It remains to be seen whether these measures will be sufficient.
