Interhome in France: the highlights of the 2021/22 winter season and the outlook for the 2022 summer season

The European leader in holiday rentals has just published its report for the 2021/22 winter season [1] and its outlook for the summer 2022 season [2].

France was widely favored by the French over the past winter (78.3%), even exceeding the levels of winters 2017/18 [3] and 2018/19 [4]. Savoie and Haute-Savoie accounted for 37.2% of all reservations. The French preferred stays of 5-7 nights in 2 and 3 star accommodation.

Highlights of the 2021/22 winter season

More than three quarters of French people have chosen France for the 2021/22 winter season

In its report on vacation rentals for the winter season 2021/22 [1].Interhome reveals that France is more than ever the favorite destination of the French (78.3% of reservations), followed by far by Switzerland (9.7%) and Italy (4.6%).

Over the whole period, accommodation located in Savoie and Haute-Savoie was the most requested (37.2% of bookings), far ahead of Normandy (7.1%), the Côte d’Azur (5. 8%), Morbihan (5.3%) and Valais (3.8%).

Reservations by French people staying in France have exploded for the 2021/22 winter season. Indeed, with 78.3% of reservations, they increased by 6.2 points compared to those recorded at the heart of the pandemic in 2020/21 (72.1%) when the borders were closed. They even exceed the levels of the previous three winter seasons. Alongside, we found the usual destinations returning to the level of winter 2018/19, noting however a nice increase in Switzerland to the detriment of Austriacommented Xavier Lelièvre, Managing Director of Interhome France.

Stays lasting 5 to 7 nights mainly in 2 and 3 star rentals.

With 57% of reservations, stays of 5 to 7 nights remain the most popular. They are followed by short stays (up to 4 nights), at 36%.

The preferred rental categories are 2 and 3 stars for 84% of French customers, according to the quality standards established by Interhome for each accommodation (depending on its comfort, its layout and the equipment available).

Indeed, it is mainly composed of French people (67.6%), followed by Germans (7%), Belgians (5.4%), British (4.9%) and Dutch (3.7%) .

Prospects for the summer 2022 season [2]

France and the Côte d’Azur still favored by the French

France continues to be at the top of the favorite destinations of the French, with a rate of planned reservations of 67.1%. Next come Spain (19.8%), Italy (7.7%), Portugal (1.6%) and Switzerland (1.5%).

The Côte d’Azur will be the flagship destination for next summer (14.0%), followed by the Costa Brava (6.7%), the Costa Blanca (5.7%), Morbihan (5. 4%) and Corsica (5.1%), in the top 5.

Longer stays but always in 2 and 3 stars.

In summer, the duration of stays increases, with 5 to 7 nights for 48% of holidaymakers and 8 to 14 nights for 32% of them, while the preferred rentals remain 2 and 3 stars for 88% of French vacationers.

Nearly one in two customers will stay in France this summer

For this summer, Interhome France rentals come mainly from France (48%) and Germany (38%), followed by Belgium (5%), Switzerland (4%) and the Netherlands (4%). ).
