Lost Ark: The Ultimate Guide to no longer playing like a Noob, here are 20 simple tips to progress in the game!

Lost Ark Beginner’s Guide: Tips and Tricks

Lost Ark has finally arrived in the West, and everyone is thinking about playing it. As a huge MMO and ARPG fan who’s done everything from brick expensive PoE items to upgrading every class in WoW for raids, I’m thrilled. If you are here, then either you are convinced or you are thinking about it.

Whenever one of us decides to embark on a new game, there are several things that come to mind. At Mobalytics, our goal is to guide you through these decisions so that you can maximize your enjoyment with a game and play the way you want.

Apart from the basic questions of whether the game is worth playing or if it will be fun in the end, most of us have doubts.

Lost Ark is no different than other intricate eternity games and there is so much to master. Nobody wants to have to learn something new and be overwhelmed.

How long will it take to get to the end of the game? Am I going to skip something important? Am I going to make a permanent bad decision? Fortunately, that’s what we’re here for: to help you solve these recurring problems. Read on!

Before I help you figure out what to focus on and where to spend your time, let me start with a simple statement: Don’t stress or worry! Lost Ark is a beautiful game with something for everyone, and there’s very little you can do to waste your time since most of the progress goes to your server account (Roster) and not your character. Whichever direction you choose to focus on, you will progress!

That being said, if you’re the min-max type, or just want to be a bit more efficient with your time and make sure you don’t waste materials, here’s a quick list of do’s and don’ts before reach 50 and complete the main quest!

Things to do in Lost Ark

#1 Use flat HP pots while leveling

They will be your main source of healing and can be found everywhere.

You just have to mow down little ones so that they drop them, seriously.

#2 Open maps and use them

They are valid for the whole account. Once you get a few, feel free to play and equip them, but don’t worry about how well you’re doing.

It’s very easy to do, and it’s not that big in terms of the -2-5% elemental resistance bonus.

#3 Plan around your Stronghold schedules

Lost Ark is all about time efficiency! If you can queue up tasks that require a long period of development/reflection, consider doing it before you go to bed.

Likewise, if you plan to do a long gaming session, it is better to do shorter sessions.

#4 Open chests with currency rewards

Most currencies are shared for your Roster, so be sure to open those chests. The only exception is that if you are unsure of your main character, do not open Shards of Harmony.

However, they are easily farmable, so don’t worry if you open them.

#5 Try Hard Mode Dungeons

If you have experience in similar games/genres and want a little more spice in Lost Ark as you progress, consider increasing the difficulty. You’ll get extra loot and maybe have more fun.

#6 Experiment with different combinations of abilities and how you spend your tripod points.

Don’t worry about min/max just yet, try out different combinations of abilities on your toolbar and the different skill upgrades you can choose from in the Tripod throughout your journey.

This will help you discover the best playstyle for you (bonus points if you adjust between PvE and PVP builds).

#7 If you’re short on time, spam Triports for travel.

Money is very easy to find, don’t be stingy! Make good use of Alt + click on your map to switch between Triports, the time you save will be worth it.

#8. Adjust your pets’ effect buffs.

Once you have a pet, did you know that you can change its two buffs at any time?

Just go to an animal management NPC (with the dog icon on your map) to exchange them for free.

#9 Enjoy the Ride

The landscapes are magnificent and there are many things to see. The fights are fun. Focus on the journey. The ending of the game is pretty easy to plug in and no mistakes are final.

Don’t stress about leveling up too fast. Taking your time can make it all more enjoyable. Explore and enjoy it all!

Things not to do in Lost Ark

#10 Don’t use % HP potions while leveling.

It’s your main source of healing in the late game, and it can be expensive and time-consuming to get more of.

All in all, this is probably the only bad decision you can make while leveling – everything else is inconsequential… that and your Founder plat skin if you have it (choose it wisely – you don’t one !).

#11 Don’t worry about picking a main

The game gives you plenty of trading opportunities, and even encourages other characters by giving you a free boost as soon as you complete the first character.

You can then get another boost for another character! Check out our character guide if you want more information on how to choose your class.

#12 Don’t worry about picking the wrong spec.

You can respect yourself anytime and anywhere, and most choices for a very long time on the setup are completely free.

#13 Don’t care about being PVP or PVE

PVP can start at age 26, and everyone is on equal footing with the same amount of skill points to distribute.

It has no effect on the character you are building.

It also means you can easily (in ~2 hours) have a new PVP ready character if you don’t like yours for PVP.

#14 Don’t worry about the 600 types of currency.

We’ll detail them in a separate guide for those of you who want to know more, but for others, just acquire them by playing the main story.

There’s not much to spend in the beginning anyway.

#15 Don’t worry about missing side quests.

Feel free to drop the side quests if you don’t like them, it’s very easy to come back and do them later, and the main quest will allow you to reach the maximum level without problem.

Note that they are super easy to do during the quest and usually on your way, so you won’t waste a lot of time and the flow will be more natural doing them like you do the main quest.

#16 Don’t worry about Collectibles and the Report.

These are very easy things to do later, even easier than when you started. Even though the rewards can be significant, they are tiny compared to other things in the game.

Likewise, feel free to ignore your seed-obsessed friend Mokoko who makes you dread you’re missing something.

Their reward is not going to make you win or lose. Note that finding them is fun, so if that’s your thing, go for it!

#17 Don’t worry about Ability Stones and Engravings.

You’ll probably get a tutorial on this subject, and you’ll forget about it. This only comes into play when you begin the endgame by equipping your character.

In fact, I recommend leaving all Engraving Chests unopened, so you don’t have to think about choosing what you want.

Added bonus, these are wide roster, so if they suck for your current class, they’ll probably be good for your alt.

#18 Don’t worry about opening chests.

They stack and you can just open them at the end of the game when you’re ready to decide what you want.

In case you have already opened them or want to open them, don’t worry too much about your decision – most things are easy to acquire.

If you’re not sure which character to choose, try not to open chests containing Harmony Crystals.

#19 Don’t worry about life skills (aka business skills) like mining and fishing etc.

The game calls them Life Skills, and they’re all about it. So if you think you have to go to old areas to farm, you’re wrong.

You can just level up an alt and pick some herbs and your main will level up too!

Don’t worry about buying them early either – the required tutorial quests will get you what you need.

#20 Don’t worry about getting new gear and ability stones before the game ends T1.

You’ll level up your gear organically by doing quests and killing monsters. You can buy gear from vendors if you feel like it, but it will be replaced and the game is pretty easy without it.

You can dismantle anything that isn’t an upgrade without fear. This includes all falling stones. The ones you start with will be superior until the end of the game anyway.
