Hanoi (VNA) – The 31st Southeast Asian Games, to be held May 12-23 in Hanoi and 11 northern locations, offers a “golden” opportunity to promote tourism. Many attractive programs and tours were launched on this occasion.
According to Hà Van Siêu, deputy director of the National Tourism Administration, after 19 years, Vietnam is hosting the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) again this year. It is also the first major sporting event in Southeast Asia after two years of health crisis.
The national tourism sector acts strongly to promote the image of the country and the people to international visitors. Thus, 12 localities in the North where sports competitions are held have launched attractive programs and circuits to present their tourist assets.
Culinary and artisanal quintessence of Hanoi
Hanoi is hosting the 2022 Food and Crafts Tourism Festival from May 19 to 23. The pavilions are set up in Lê Quang Dao Street and Nam Tu Liêm District. The capital, with 47 of the 52 traditional crafts listed in the country, unveils several of them at this event, including the ceramics of Bat Tràng, the silk of Van Phuc, the basketry of Phu Vinh, the sanded lacquer of Hà Thai and Son Dong…

According to Nguyên Hông Minh, deputy director of the Municipal Tourism Department, in order to make the most of SEA Games 31, Hanoi is also organizing the Tourism Festival from May 13 to 15 in Dinh Tiên Hoàng Street, by the lake of Hoàn Kiêm (Lake of the Restored Sword), on the theme “Hanoi, to come there is to love it”. In addition, during the days of competitions, the pedestrian street of Trinh Công Son in the district of Tây Hô is animated every Saturday and Sunday by shows and street food stands.
Heritage discovery tours
In addition to Hanoi, SEA Games 31 competitions are held in 11 northern cities and provinces of Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hà Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hoà Binh, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho. These localities have collaborated with travel agencies to launch special tours including two discovery tours “Hanoi – Viet Tri – Sa Pa – Ninh Binh” (six days) and “Hanoi – Viet Tri – Sa Pa – Ha Long” (seven days). Visitors who sign up are offered plane tickets from Vietravel Airlines and tickets to matches at the Viet Tri stadium in Phu Tho province.
The National Tourism Administration also publishes detailed information on tours in Hanoi on this occasion on its website (http://seagames31.vietnamtourism.gov.vn/tour-in-hanoi/). In particular, the Municipal Tourism Service has launched two bicycle tours called “Footprints of the ancient village of Bat Tràng” and “Quintessence of Tràng An” allowing tourists to discover the city center and traditional craft villages of the suburb.
Quang Ninh Province (North) offers nine tours operated by tour operator Honggai Tours Quang Ninh, in collaboration with Heritage Travel Center.
As for Phu Tho, Nguyên Dac Thuy, director of the provincial department of culture, sports and tourism, said that in order to promote its cultural identity to national and international friends, the province has decided to set up presentation stands. of local products and to organize visits to intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO, including the cult of the Hùng kings, founders of the nation, and the hát xoan (spring song).
During the days when the sports competitions are held, Phu Tho will organize performances of hát xoan in the communes of Kim Duc and Hung Lô, as well as in the city of Viêt Tri.
