The slowly unfolding warm season in Lithuania offers visitors many opportunities to experience the country’s flourishing nature and numerous cultural events.

A unique summer festival in the capital, seaside festivities in the port city, world famous British music stars in the medieval castle, and heaps of festivities in Kaunas, the European Capital of Culture 2022 .

Visitors, who come to Lithuania during the warm season, will have the choice between an abundance of cultural events – the long-awaited Sea Festival in the port city of Klaip?da, the preparatory celebrations for the 700th anniversary of Vilnius, the capital , and numerous festivals, concerts and exhibitions throughout the country.

A cultural boom in Lithuanian metropolises

Although cosmopolitan Vilnius will celebrate its 700and anniversary next year, festive events are already building the pre-anniversary mood. One of the highlights of the pre-anniversary events will be a major international music festival on July 25, St. Christopher’s Day.

Held in the city’s largest public green space, Vingis Park, the concert will attract aficionados of classical, pop, electronic, dance music and a host of other genres for a day full of performances audiovisual, Lithuanian and world-renowned artists, and vibrant urban energy.

Another essential part of the summer season in Vilnius is the Midsummer Vilnius ’22, an exclusive festival held at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Already popular with the public, the event will bring together a number of big names for a dose of entertainment from July 11-22. A Ukrainian Jamala, the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, the world famous jazz and rock virtuoso Alas di Meola, an American opera star Charles Castronovo, a British sensation The Tiger Lillies alongside Lithuanian musical talents like Daddy Was A Milkman will remind Vilnius residents and visitors of the city’s summer appeal.

Kaunas, the second largest city and this year’s European Capital of Culture, closely follows the capital in terms of cultural entertainment with 1,000 events this year. Spring’s main attraction will be La Confluence, an event taking place in the month of May that will encompass the magic of the city’s Neris and Nemunas rivers. Visitors will be invited into a wild spectacle of circus acrobats, water performances, musical river rides, live music and visual projections.

Captivating waterside festivals

The laid-back Lithuanian port town of Klaip?da, nestled on the shores of the Baltic Sea, attracts thousands of visitors to its summer Sea Festival each year. The nautical-themed event will permeate the entire city in July, inviting you to take a tour of the fairs brimming with handmade delicacies and artisan memorabilia, admire the majestic ships in the marina and stroll the streets tangled city that exude the charm of the seaside.

Another water town and the most famous medieval town in the country, Trakai, which is only 20 minutes from the capital, will also celebrate its 700th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, next June the 15th century Gothic castle on Trakai Island, surrounded by a shimmering lake, will be brought to life by romantic performances by well-known British artists Passenger and Tom Odell.

The festivities continue in the air

Birštonas, one of the most popular resort towns known for its healing mineral springs and mud, will take the summer festivities to the next level with a hot air balloon championship on June 9-12. Pilots will have to maneuver around the obstacle course, while battling the atmospheric elements.

Enthusiastic spectators will have the opportunity to take a ride with the competing hot air balloons, while less adventurous visitors can admire the aircraft that take over the skyline from the elegant streets of the city or from the nearby observation tower. At 55 meters high, the tower offers a breathtaking view of the green valley of the Nemunas River.
